The Legacy Garden and Ailie's Glade showcases plants that are native to Kansas or have been introduced
and naturalized over time.
Perhaps quite familiar to the visitor, these plants are the mainstays of the Kansas landscape. They dot the urban and rural landscape as foundation plantings, windbreaks, shade trees or thickets that harbor birds and small animals.
Our grape arbor offers a quiet spot to enjoy the garden.
This garden also features heirloom plants and a babbling brook.
Four time capsules reside in this garden along with the tulips. The time capsules, planted during the garden's dedication in 2000, contain seeds from trees, flowers and vegetables plus memorabilia from Overland Park. Every 25 years, one of the capsules will be opened and refilled.
The Legacy Garden is sponsored by the Legacy of Greenery Committee, a group of volunteers who are dedicated to the development of the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens while enhancing other green areas throughout the city.
