Traffic Calming Program Active projects

As part of the 2009 Residential Street Program, the city is considering the installation of traffic calming measures on 80th Street, between Antioch Road and Newton Street.

A presentation on the traffic calming program was made to the nearby neighborhood group, Historic Overland Park, in April 2008.

After the initial meeting, the first ballot, requesting residents to vote if they would like to continue participation in the program, was mailed. Of the 67 ballots mailed, 32 valid ballots were returned. Of these, 23, or 72 percent, were in favor of the program.

Following this favorable vote, a public hearing was held Oct. 13 to discuss the specific measures to be used and their location.

The city mailed a second ballot to residents Oct. 21, due Nov. 13. The second ballot will ask residents whether they approve the proposed measures. For the measures to be implemented, a favorable response must be received from at least 60 percent of the residents
