Traffic calming is defined as a combination of mainly physical measures to help reduce the negative effects of motor vehicles, alter driver behavior and improve conditions for non-motorized street users. Thus, the city has created a traffic calming program to address the needs of its residents.

The City Council approved a traffic calming policy for use on residential and collector streets in July 2008.
Funding has not been obligated specifically to the traffic calming program; individual projects will be reviewed annually on a case by case basis.
