Seated
upon a rock, he holds his guitar, seemingly inviting others to join in.
He is the "Song of Tomorrow" sculpture that is installed in Santa Fe Commons Park, 80th and Santa Fe Drive.
This sixth installment is part of the city's public arts plan. "Song of Tomorrow" was created by Kwan Wu, a Chinese immigrant and Overland Park resident.
The city solicited work from artists to prepare a sculpture for the park.
Wu has several pieces on display in the metropolitan area, including Bill of Rights at the Kansas City, Mo., federal courthouse; 12 life-size bronze baseball players at the National Negro League Baseball Museum; the 9-foot statue of legendary KU Basketball Coach Phog Allen on the KU campus; Children of the Trails memorial in the Johnson County Courthouse square; and many others.
