2008 public improvement projects
Overland Park is gearing up for several major road construction projects in 2008. Two new thoroughfare widenings will start, and several projects will be completed this year.
The benefits will be significant, but it will come with some traffic delays and temporary disruption.
- 119th Street: Riley to U.S. 69 - This project includes widening 119th from four to six lanes.
- Antioch Road: 151st to 167th streets - This project includes construction of a four lane divided thoroughfare with storm sewers, streetlights and a traffic signal at 159th and Antioch.
- Quivira Road: 175th to 179th streets – This project is being administered by the Blue Valley School District and includes intersection improvements at 175th and 179th streets in support of the school district's new Southwest campus on the southwest corner of 175th Street and Quivira Road.
- Bridge Replacement: 95th Street and Foster Street – This project includes the replacement of a large box culvert structure under 95th Street just east of Foster Street.
- 2008 Residential Street Program - Neighborhood street improvements include new storm sewers, curbs, asphalt pavement, driveway approaches, sidewalks, and street lights. Streets include:
- Walmer Homes Association
- Walmer: 67th Street to 65th Terrace
- Riggs: South of 66th Street
- 66th Street: Glenwood to Lamar
- Area 13
- 72nd Terrace: Hardy to Lowell Avenue
- 74th Terrace: Antioch (east)
- 74th Street: Antioch (east)
- 74th Street: West of Mackey to east of Hardy
- Hadley: 75th to 74th streets
- Hardy: 75th to 71st streets
- Walmer Homes Association
Traffic Signals/Street lights:
- 121st Street and Metcalf Avenue: A new traffic signal will be installed at this location. As part of this project, the north leg intersection, median and crossing at 123rd Street will be modified and improved.
- 138th Street and Metcalf Avenue – A new traffic signal will be installed at this location.
- Shawnee Mission Parkway and Lamar Avenue – The traffic signal at this location will be replaced due to maintenance.
Stormwater Improvements:
- Saddle Hills Stormwater Improvements: This projects includes designing and constructing a storm drainage system through the Saddle Hills neighborhood in the vicinity of 83rd Street and Antioch. The project is being funded through the Johnson County Stormwater Management Advisory Council program.
