Police Department

Police Officers at WorkThe Overland Park Police Department was established in 1960 with 19 officers. By 2008, the Police Department had grown to more than 260 sworn officers and 56 civilians.

The W. Jack Sanders Justice Center (map) serves as the department's headquarters. Two other police facilities serve the residents of Overland Park – Westgate and the Myron E. Scafe Building (formerly the Antioch Justice Center).

Although incorporated in 1960, Overland Park has exhibited remarkable growth.  The city is noted through the Midwest for its prosperity and progressive atmosphere. Likewise, the Police Department has long been recognized as an innovator of progressive police programs and as a leader in law enforcement creativity.

All police personnel strive to ensure Overland Park continues to have one of the lowest crime rates for a city of its size.
