The state of Kansas requires a police report be filed if:
- The damage on both vehicles totals more than $500
- Anyone is injured
- Anyone is intoxicated
Overland Park Police will respond to hit-and-run accidents and those occurring on public streets.
Inclement Weather Accidents:
If you are in a minor automobile accident with no injuries, the cars
are drivable and substance abuse is not a factor, we ask that you "walk in" a report within 48 to 72 hours to the W. Jack Sanders
Justice Center, 12400 Foster Map it!, or the lower level of the Myron E. Scafe Building, 8500 Antioch Map it!.
Drivers should be sure to exchange correct and valid information, names, addresses, driver license and license plate numbers and insurance information.
Private Property Accident Reports:
The Overland Park Police Department investigates vehicle accidents occurring on private
property only if:
- The accident involves injuries or a fatality
- The accident involves a suspected hit-and-run driver
- Alcohol/drug impairment is suspected
- Reckless driving was a causal factor
- The vehicle involved is government-owned
- The total property damage exceeds $1,000 and the vehicle cannot be driven
If none of these criteria exist, the participants should seek civil remedy by reporting the accident to their respective insurance carriers.
