The Police Department values the opportunity to speak with community groups on issues of safety and security. We receive hundreds of presentation requests annually from organizations of all sizes, including corporations, small businesses, neighborhoods, schools and faith communities.
Because of the volume of requests, we must limit our participation to events consistent with the Mission of the Police Department. If you would like us to consider your speaking request, please submit the online form 14 days prior to your scheduled event.
Does your request meet the Police Department's criteria?
- Purpose: The presentation must contribute directly or
indirectly to the safety and welfare of the citizens of the Overland Park
community.
- 14-Day Advance Notice: In order for us to evaluate,
approve and schedule an event with an officer, please make your
request at least two weeks in advance. Requests will be processed within
four working days and the individual making the request will be contacted.
- Minimum of 10 Attendees: Because of our limited resources,
we cannot schedule officers to present to groups of less than
10 people. (Exceptions are residential and commercial security
surveys where the officer may contact just one or two individuals.)
- Videotaping: It is permissible for organizations to videotape an officer's presentation and replay it for individuals who cannot attend.
Request for the Chief of Police: Speaking engagements specifically requesting the Chief of Police should be forwarded to the chief's office by e-mail at police@opkansas.org.
The Police Department truly values the opportunity to interact with the community and discuss issues or topics of concern to citizens.
