Gus Ramirez
Major, 1962-1988

Gus RamirezMajor Gus Ramirez began his career in 1962 with the Overland Park Police Department. During his tenure, he served in a variety of capacities such as Officer, Detective, Field Sergeant, Lieutenant, and finally Division Commander.

He was once recognized for single-handedly apprehending a bank robber, who was armed with a bomb and had just robbed the Metcalf State Bank.

Of his many talents and accomplishments, the trait which defines him most is his devotion to the Overland Park Police Department and the men and women of this organization. His loyalty to the organization and his strong desire to see it succeed led to a lifetime of dedicated performance.

After leaving the Overland Park Police Department in 1988, Major Ramirez became the Director of Safety and Security of the Johnson County Community College. As such, he remained active in the law enforcement community. Called again to serve the Department, he became a Civil Service Commissioner in 1999.

Major Gus Ramirez leaves a legacy of dedication to the Department, which redefines the meaning of loyalty and commitment. His affection for this institution and his commitment has led to a lifetime of service.
