The Community Policing Division is staffed by commissioned officers who work in the schools and community. An officer is assigned to each school in the city of Overland Park as either a School Resource Officer or as a DARE Officer. Community Oriented Policing programs also are maintained by this division.

Community Policing Section:
- Offers a variety of programs geared toward enhancing our safety at home and at work in Overland Park.
- Administers the Crime-Free Multi-Housing Program and Residential Security Surveys.
- Works with neighborhood conservation groups.
- Utilizes proactive problem solving methods to address specific community issues.
- Oversees lost and found property.
D.A.R.E. and School Resource Section:
- D.A.R.E. officers work with students in grades K-6, instructing them on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
- School Resource Officers work in the middle and high schools filling the roles of law enforcement officer, teacher and advisor.
- Life Skills officers work in the Blue Valley elementary schools teaching cooperatively with teachers on a number of topics that affect the safety and well being of our children.
