The First Tee
TARGET Curriculum
All of the Overland Park Junior Instruction programs include the TARGET curriculum from The First Tee.
TARGET:
- T "take aim"
- A "anyone can play"
- R "respect"
- G "golf is a game"
- E "enjoy it"
- T "try it"
This program focuses not just on learning how to swing a golf club and hit the ball, but also on the other parts of the game of golf. Parts of the game are familiar to most adult golfers, but maybe not to all juniors. Things like safety and etiquette are important lessons for both on and off the golf course.
Through The First Tee TARGET program, young golfers see how a lesson like Taking Aim can be both golf course management and setting a goal; how Anyone Can Play is about handicaps and playing with others. The First Tee program provides a wonderful arena for positive and successful activities for young players to learn about the game of golf and The First Tee Nine Core Values™ of: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, courtesy, judgment, confidence, responsibility and perseverance.
*Additional program details and information is available in our Junior Instruction Guide (.pdf file) which can be picked up at the golf shop.
