The police department tows more than 2,000 vehicles a year. These fees are set according to city ordinance:
- Basic hookup fee - $65
- Mileage - $3/mi.
- Outside storage - $18/day
- Inside storage - $24/day
- Dolly fee - $43
- Winching fee - $100/hr. (prorated per quarter hour)
- Waiting fee - $72/hr. (prorated per quarter hour)
- Labor fee - $25/hr.
- Tarping - $12
What proof do I need to get my car out of the tow lot?
- Proof of ownership (ex. title, bill of sale)
- Proof of insurance
- Identification
- Current registration
Can I get my personal belongs out of the car?
No. According to the ordinance, the only things a tow company has to give you from the vehicle are:
- medicine or medical supplies
- driver's license
- registration
- insurance papers

What can I do if I want a car towed off private property?
An officer must come out and check the vehicle to make sure it isn't stolen. Call the Communications Department, 913/895-6300, within one hour of the vehicle being towed and give the following information concerning the tow or removal:
- Vehicle make
- Vehicle model
- Vehicle year
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
- License plate number
- Destination where vehicle is to be towed and stored
- Person ordering the tow
