The large item collection is a special no-charge trash collection offered by the City of Overland Park to pick up those items not collected by your routine trash service.
This year the large item collection is for single through four-plex residences west of Antioch only.*
- The 2008 collection is complete. More than 2 million pounds of junk from nearly 24,000 households were collected.
- Crews will pick up items east of Antioch in early 2009.
* Collections occur every other year for homes east or west of Antioch. Pickups were made in 2007 at homes east of Antioch.
Items collected include:
- Appliances
- Car parts (no engines or fuel tanks)
- Railroad ties (four feet or less)
- Fencing
- Remodeling debris
- Furniture
- Tree limbs cut to length and bundled as appropriate
If your items can be lifted by two people and will fit into a compactor trash truck, they will be picked up.
We will not collect:
- More than one refrigerator per household.
- Tires mounted on wheels.
- Large volumes of concrete debris.
- Liquid waste or hazardous materials. Call 913/715-6900 to arrange disposal of these materials.
- Compressed gas cylinders.
- Waste from commercial establishments.
Do:
- Get all your materials to the curb by 7 a.m. Collection starts at 7 a.m.
- Place items in an orderly pile on the ground at one location on your property.
- Put out only those items not collected by regular trash service.
- Bundle or package loose items.
- Cut branches and limbs to four feet or
less and securely bundle
(18" diameter max.) or box for easy collection. - Close and secure (taped or tied) or remove refrigerator/freezer doors.
- Cut carpet and tie in rolls so that if wet it can be easily collected.
Don't:
- Place items at the curb before Friday the week of your scheduled collection.
- Put out items at the curb you don't want collected. Trash cans and other items collected will not be replaced.
- Leave food items in refrigerators.
