creating a Family Safety Calendar

This is a great project for older children.

You will need:

  1. Pick your favorite number between 1 and 28. Use one of the crayons or markers to draw a circle around that number each month. In each one of the circled spaces write "Safety Check" or decorate it in a way that it looks different from the others.

  2. Find each family member's birthday and circle one day during that week. In each circled space write "fire drill".

  3. Find the page with the month of April on it. Somewhere on the page in big letters write, "Change your clock, change your battery."

  4. Find the page with the month of October on it. Somewhere on the page in big letters write, "Change your clock, change your battery."

  5. Hang the calendar in your room or someplace where you can see it easily. Every month when a safety check day comes, remind a grown-up that it is time to do a safety check. Do the same for fire drill and change your clock days.
