Of course our fire trucks are available 24 hours a day for emergencies, but there are occasions when we bring them around for non-emergency events.
Our
equipment is state of the art and we like to show it off, however, the
fire equipment is more than just exciting. It is a reminder that practicing
safe
habits can prevent an injury from occurring.
Whenever we bring out our equipment, we use the opportunity to teach safety as well. Instead of just using our trucks as an amusement or photo backdrop, we use them to teach children and adults the importance of wearing their seat belt, having a fire escape plan, knowing when to dial 9-1-1 and many other safety tips.
Because of our commitment to education and the popularity of our education programs, our trucks are not available to visit birthday parties, grand openings or sidewalk sales.
Preschoolers can visit one of our fire stations or learn about firefighters and their trucks through our Pluggie Program. We don't bring fire trucks to the preschools, because the Pluggie Program is more age appropriate. It is difficult to keep young childrens' attention outside on the sidewalk. Therefore, we decided to work with our preschoolers either in their classroom or in one of our fire stations where the environment is more controlled and comfortable.
If you would like more information or would like to schedule a fire truck, please contact Tricia Roberts at 913/888-6066.
- Fire truck visits must be scheduled a minimum of 14 days in advance; 30-45 days advance scheduling is suggested.
