Fire Station visits

All five Overland Park Fire Stations are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Three shifts of firefighters cover this responsibility on a 24-hour rotating schedule.

Guests are welcome to visit. A visit by your group can be arranged at any of our fire stations.

Activities are planned based on the age and skill level of the audience. Education is a big component of a fire station visit. We view guests in the building as another opportunity to teach injury prevention.

If you would like to arrange a visit for your group, contact Tricia Roberts at 913/888-6066.

Possible activities for a group of preschool children could include watching a fire safety video that teaches the ABCs and fire safety. Other videos can be used based on the age of the group.

Children also will learn about the fire truck and it's equipment.

Children can practice Exit Drills In The Home (E.D.I.T.H.) using a tool we call the EDITH Box. They roll out of "bed" and crawl under the "smoke." When they get to the door, they feel it and the firefighters tell them the door is hot. Then they take the second way out and crawl out the window. Everyone meets at the tree.
