FIFth and SIXth Grade Fire Safety Program

The fifth- and sixth-grade program is more of an interactive lecture.

It starts with a fire safety video made just for them. The video uses kids their age to teach fire safety concepts from proper handling of flammable liquids to holiday decorations and babysitting. After the video, the kids and presenter discuss key points and review cooking safety. The presentation closes with a discussion about firesetting using a scenario based on actual cases.

Through analysis of the facts of the case, the students will learn how much it actually costs for the fire department to put out a small bathroom fire, and they will learn what the cost is for the student who set it.

The goal is to impress upon the kids that bad decisions about fire use can ruin their record and affect not only themselves but also their families and friends.

The program is about one hour long and is taught in a large group setting.
