I
want to be a firefighter...now what?
We love to talk about our job. In the past we have visited classrooms, set up booths at career fairs and provided speakers for school-wide career days.
Our career program is targeted for junior high and high school students.
We have an assortment of hand tools and fire gear for the participants to pick-up and try on.
We also have a short video that shows actual Overland Park firefighters working real emergency incidents. It can be played once for a program or continuously in a loop at a booth.
There also are handouts
for the participants with information about the fire service in general
and the Overland Park Fire Department specifically.

In addition to learning about a career in firefighting, we provide information about other career fields in the fire service, including emergency medicine, code enforcement, plans review and fire protection engineering, arson investigation, computer and data processing, public education, media relations, multimedia, training and administration.
If you would like more information about career programs contact Tricia Roberts at 913/888-6066.
- We suggest that you contact us at least two to four weeks prior to your event. All-day events may require further planning.
