John Skubal was elected to the City Council in April 2007. Prior to his election, he served on the Planning Commission for three years.

Councilman Skubal has a bachelor's degree from Emporia State University and graduate hours at Washburn University. He retired from Johnson County Community College in 2002 after 24 years of service and is currently employed in business development by Kaw Valley Engineering.

Councilman Skubal currently serves as president of the Quail Valley Homes Association.  He is a graduate of Leadership Overland Park and is a volunteer for that program as well as Leadership Johnson County. He is an active member of the Overland Park South Rotary and the Overland Park, Lenexa and Olathe Chambers of Commerce.
