Donna Owens was elected to the City Council in April 2005.
Councilmember Owens is active in several community organizations. She provided leadership as president of the Brookridge Estates Homes Association and of the Overland Park Legacy of Greenery Committee and served as vice-chair of the Executive Committee of the Friends of the Arboretum. She is a member of the Overland Park Rotary Club.
Donna was an insurance and financial service professional for more than 30 years. She retired from Employers Reinsurance Corporation and then subsequently as the principal of a risk management consulting firm. Donna is past president of the Kansas City Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. She chaired the 2002 Kansas City Business Ethics Award and continues to be active in that program.
Donna has a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University. Her professional credentials include Chartered Life Underwriter, Fellow-Life Management Institute, and Associate in Risk Management.
She and her husband, Tim, have been residents of Overland Park for more than 30 years. They have two adult sons and three grandchildren.
Donna serves as the city's representative on the Mid-America Regional Council Board of Directors, the National League of Cities Steering Committee on Community and Economic Development, and is appointed to the Johnson County Transportation Advisory Council.
