City Council Action Summary - June 9, 2003

  1. Recognized the APWA (American Public Works Association) National Awards as follows:
    1. Wayne Gudenkauf - Young Leader of the Year;
    2. Bruce Wacker – Project of the Year.

  2. Approved the following Consent Agenda items:

    FINANCE, ADMINISTRATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: STAFF ITEMS:

    1. Confirmed investments in the amount of $4,000,000 in certificates of deposit;
    2. Capital Projects Expenditure Ordinance No. 6A – Outlining the expenditures from the Capital Projects funds for May 29 through June 4, 2003;
    3. One application for Temporary Cereal Malt Beverage License, as listed on the agenda;
    4. One application for New Cereal Malt Beverage License, as listed on the agenda;
    5. Two applications for Renewal of Cereal Malt Beverage License, as listed on the agenda.

    COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: COMMITTEE ITEMS:

    1. Ordinance No. AC-2436 – Allowing business owners within the City to serve on the Arts Commission;
    2. Korean War Memorial – Recommend site for Korean War Veterans Memorial near Tomahawk Ridge Community Center;
    3. Agreement – Arts and Recreation Foundation to construct a greenhouse at the Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens;
    4. Request to Waive the Bid Process – To purchase scoreboards for the Community Park ball fields;
    5. Resolution No. 3341 – Sewer District Enlargement in the vicinity of 127th Street and Nieman.

  3. Approved Supplemental Agreement – Phelps Engineering, Inc., for additional work on the 2003 Major Storm Sewer Repair Program described as 87th Street to 89th Street and Foster Box Culverts for an additional amount of $44,672.

  4. Approved Resolution No. 3340 – Appropriating private property for the construction of a community center in the vicinity of 81st Street to Hamilton, Marty to Floyd.

  5. Approved Ordinance No. CON-2434 – Authorizing and providing for the acquisition of lands by condemnation for the construction of a community center in the vicinity of 81st Street to Hamilton, and Marty to Floyd.

  6. Continued to the December 15, 2003, City Council meeting further consideration of exclusion of land from the boundaries of the City – Vicinity of the northeast corner of 167th Street and Nall (continued from the March 3, 2003, Council meeting).

  7. Announced that the City flags will fly at half-mast from June 10 through June 12, 2003, to mourn the loss of Matt Ross, former City Council Member.

  8. Went into executive session to discuss matters subject to the attorney-client privilege relating to the case of Dezube et al. versus the City of Overland Park, et al., now pending in the Johnson County, Kansas, District Court.
