Commercial, Multi-family, Infill and Redevelopment
The City has adopted three sets of design guidelines and standards to shape the character of new multi-family and commercial developments.
The guidelines work in conjunction with the Unified Development Ordinance and the Master Plan.
Areas covered by the guidelines:
- Site layout
- Open space
- Preservation of natural features
- Pedestrian and vehicular circulation
- Landscaping
- Screening and transitions
- Lighting
- Building design
Guidelines:

- Infill and Redevelopment Design Guidelines (4mb) - tailored for commercial and multi-family developments north of I-435 and include a component for new single-family projects.
- Multifamily Design Guidelines (2.3mb) - cover multi-family developments south of I-435, including apartments, townhomes and patio homes.
- Commercial Design Guidelines (2.9mb) - apply to new retail developments south of I-435.
