Some construction projects, such as hotels, hospitals, airports or nursing homes, are not listed as a permitted use in any zoning district. These are only permitted after the approval of a special use permit for a specific use at a specific location.
Special use permits can be approved for a specific period of time (subject to renewal) or for an indefinite period of time.
For more details, please read municipal code chapter 18.370 on special uses. For the process required for special use permits, see chapter 3 of the city's Development Handbook.
Send questions regarding special use permits to the Planner of the Day at 913/895-6217 or pod@opkansas.org.
