The purpose of our fire extinguisher training is to familiarize your employees with basic fire extinguisher operation. The class is taught at your facility by a fire department speaker. We teach fire extinguisher use for life safety purposes only. Two classes are offered.
Classroom only: Employees will learn what elements make up a fire, the classifications of fire and which fire extinguisher should be used for each classification.
They will be shown how to use a fire extinguisher and given guidence for making the decision to use an extinguisher on a fire.
Other workplace safety issues such as emergency exits, pull station and alarm activiation locations will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on discussing the fire safety features of your particular facility.
Depending on class size and employee interest during question and answer time, the actual training time runs 30-45 minutes. The speaker will require a TV/VCR and small table or counter to display props.
Classroom with hands-on: This class covers all of the elements
for classroom only plus...
The hands-on demonstration portion should take place on a level surface in an open area. The speaker will provide the barrel and fuel for creating the fires. You are responsible for renting the fire extinguishers for the employees to use (Call the company who currently services your fire extinguishers or look in the yellow pages under fire equipment).
Please note: The speaker reserves the right to cancel the outside demonstration portion of the training due to inclement weather or if an appropriate site is not available. Hands-on training cannot occur without a burn permit (wind speed must be below 15 mph). An "open burning ban" issued by the Fire Marshal automatically cancels all hands-on training. Every effort will be made to communicate a cancellation as soon as possible. The classroom portion can still occur without the hands-on training if you so choose.
If you would like to schedule either class please call 4-6 weeks ahead of your prefered date. Contact Tricia Roberts at 913/888-6066. There is no fee for this training. For the hands-on demonstration, your only cost is the rental of the fire extinguishers.
Fire brigade training
Both of the above trainings are intended for life safety
familiarization only. Most companies make it part of their annual safety
training. Some send
only their floor marshals or safety committee members. It is not intended
to give fire brigade members formal fire supression training. Fire brigade
training can be obtained for a fee through our Fire Training Facility. For
more information contact Mary Bitter at 913/895-8400.
