Conservation Program

Overland Park's Neighborhood Conservation Program (NCP) was initiated in 1991 to help sustain aging neighborhoods in the northern part of the city that do not have homes associations.

Much of single family residential homes in this part of the city were built in the 1940s to 1960s and are now showing signs of age in infrastructure, housing conditions and property maintenance conditions.

The Conservation Program helps preserve and enhance these neighborhoods by:

  • Promoting community building by supporting neighborhood groups and homes associations;
  • Providing a forum for communication between neighbors, residents and City Hall;
  • Developing community leadership; and
  • Engaging the city's residents in their local government.

There are 33 neighborhoods that have been organized through the program; 24 currently are active. Additional information about the program is included in the city's Comprehensive Plan.
